Policies on Ethics
The Libyan Journal of Food and Nutrition (LJFN) believes in the importance of maintaining the integrity of the scientific record. The editorial board works to ensure that all published articles conform to the best available research standards. The journal adheres to the highest standards of publication ethics and prevents any unethical publishing practices by all possible means. The journal's responsibility is to publish original and scientifically valuable works to the best of its ability, in accordance with the highest standards, which include the fundamental ethical values of honesty, originality, impartiality, objectivity, and confidentiality on the part of editors and reviewers. The journal also adheres to best practices regarding ethical issues, error handling, and the correction or retraction of research when necessary, in addition to providing judicial review when required. Conflict of Interest (COI)
All publishers of scientific research must declare any potential conflicts of interest related to the submitted research. To ensure best practices are followed, authors are required to complete a Conflict of Interest form, which generates a statement
Plagiarism
The journal uses Plagiarism Checker X software to ensure the originality of submitted manuscripts. A maximum similarity of 25% is allowed. If a manuscript exceeds this limit, it will be returned to the authors for revision or rejected. Extensive plagiarism may lead to the rejection of a manuscript during the initial review. A manuscript will also be re-examined if the author makes substantial changes during the peer review process.
Authorship
The journal prohibits any submissions that include what is known as a "guest author" or "phantom author." Each co-author of a manuscript must meet all four of the following criteria:
-
Make substantial contributions to the conception or design of the work, or to the collection, analysis, or interpretation of data.
-
Critically revise or edit the work in a way that adds significant intellectual value.
-
Accept full responsibility for all aspects of the work and ensure that any issue of accuracy or integrity is addressed appropriately.
-
The Corresponding Author (Principal) is solely responsible for providing and following up on all details related to the manuscript throughout the peer-review and production phases.
Scientific Misconduct
Although the journal is not a formal member of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), it adheres to the COPE's Code of Conduct. COPE flowcharts are used to guide the editorial board in cases of suspected misconduct, which may include:
-
Fabricating or manipulating data
-
Publishing previously published and modified research
-
Violating authorship standards
-
Disputes concerning authorship or contributions
-
If an article has already been published, retraction may be necessary to maintain the integrity of the scientific record.
